x-DASalign – Precision and Safety

Test stand for reliable driver assistance systems

Bietigheim-Bissingen, May 09, 2014 – Driver assistance sensor technology in cars and trucks provides more safety in road traffic. The number and the complexity of the systems in the vehicle increase and require efficient and fast calibration and setting processes which have to be carried out under consideration of dynamic chassis parameters. The driver assistance systems test stand x-DASalign by Dürr Assembly Products is ideally suited for these requirements.

The assistance systems of modern vehicles, as for example  Lane Change Assistant (LCA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), proximity radar for the cruise control system, rear view, mirror, fender and headlamp cameras, night vision assistant, adaptive main beam, emergency brake assistant or head-up display have to be tested and calibrated process capable. System specific targets are used for this in the vehicle final assembly.

Indispensable requirement for a process capable adjustment of driver assistance systems is the accurate positioning of the vehicle in the test stand x-DASalign as well as the exact measurement and adjustment of the chassis geometry.
Subsequently the calibration of the sensors installed in the vehicle is effected through a communication of the test stand with the control units installed in the vehicle or through active adjustment. When calibrating security relevant sensor systems (e.g. cruise control, emergency brake assistant) dynamic vehicle data are compared with calibration values of laser measurement technology installed in the test stand.

Due to the high security relevance of the driver assistance systems the target and calibration units of the test stand x-DASalign have to work process capable and must be checked regularly. Therefore, setting gauges are used which are manufactured specifically for the test stand. In automated test stands the test cycles run due to customer requirements independently and without operator intervention.

For the steadily increasing requirements to the security of the traffic and the active protection of the vehicle passengers Dürr Assembly Products develops and supplies innovative calibration systems as modular components of the integrative overall concept “wheel alignment – driver assistance system”.

The figures speak for themselves – in the last years Dürr Assembly Products has delivered more than 100 systems to all well-known vehicle and truck manufacturers.
